Rainsticks are south American percussion instruments that when tilted, inverted or shaken evoke the sound of distant rainfall.

Small sticks are inserted into the sound chamber in a spiral. The fine beads filling the chamber fall through these sticks creating a cascade of sound like a pleasant rain shower.
